Dirge: Overview

Welcome to this special season of the Get Free podcast accompaniment to "Dirge: Black and Indigenous Hemispheric Burial, a Sound Sculpture," which is a multimedia project curated byyour host Tao Leigh Goffe. In these five episodes you will hear from collaborators on themes of stolen land and stolen life in the Western Hemisphere.

Four bricks — Mannahatta, Caribbean, Ithaca, the Far Future — in the wall in the sound sculpture symbolize the different site-specific geographies of departure to chart Black and Native life after apocalypse across the Americas. Three groups of students were assigned to curate their interpretation of a place-based sound sculpture.

About the Podcast

Get Free
Tao Leigh Goffe, a professor and DJ, chats with artists and intellectuals.
Caribbean poet Kamau Brathwaite said, “the unity is sub-marine.” Let’s dive deep, I’m your host Tao Leigh Goffe, and you’re listening to my podcast *Get Free.*

I'm a writer, associate professor, and a DJ. I teach classes on the global histories that emerge out of imperialism and unfreedom.

This podcast is about freedom as a verb, the ongoing practice of discovering your "yes." I talk with guests about getting free by embracing this question.
